Sony Vaio UX17TP Now Available at SonyStyle Taiwan
SonyStyle Taiwan has now the Sony Vaio UX17TP (VGN-UX17TP) for pre-order. Similar to the the Japanese UX90PS model, it runs on the Intel Core Single processor at 1.2GHz, has 512MB of RAM, 30GB hard drive, Compact Flash slot, Bluetooth 2.0, wireless (a/b/g), two cameras, fingerprint scanner, and a 1024×600 4.5-inch screen. It comes with Windows XP SP2 - Traditional Chinese pre-installed. The price is about $1836 USD.
One thing I noticed different is the color of the port replicator. Rather than black as that of the US and Japanese models, it’s silver, same as the body color.
Pre-orders made by July 5, 2006 will receive a free special Vaio case to store the UX, cables, and other accessories (I still prefer my Podzilla case though).
Pics of the case after the jump.
[Thanks Damafen!]

Looks likea TR case! Very hot. I also like the color of the dock… I just like Sony VAIO accessories, those are made well!
Hmmm . . . so I tried to pre-order the UX17TP last week. The website actually lists the OS as multilingual (English) but with Traditional Chinese installed by default. My Chinese and patience are not good enough to go for the Traditional Chinese OS so I asked about the English. To make a long story and many follow up calls by my secretary short, it seems that it will ship here with just a Traditional Chinese OS and software for the time being (or that’s the plan today anyway). There are apparently “software problems with the English.” I have no idea what that means and whether it is just for the local multilingual version. It may also simply be someone covering for someone else’s mistake on the website so be warned. I am though expecting a further update on when or whether the multilingual version will ship locally (or whether they will be kind enough to arrange for one if not). I will post an update when I know more.
