Always in need of a bigger one

My UX has a Toshiba MK3008GAL 1.8-inch CE HDD 30.0 GB.
It’s used in consumer electronic product and have a Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) connector.
So the maximum people will be able to upgrade at this time is the MK6008GAH with 60GB. I don’t know if other manufacturers have bigger ones.

**Update **
As someone reported, the MK6008GAH heights 0.31″ (8mm) whereas MK3008GAL 0.197″ (5mm), so it might not fit into the UX.

Here is a quick bench using HDTach

I have looked into this, the 60gb version, is 8mm in height, vs 5.0 for the 20, and 30 gb drives. I also have scrutinized the pictures of the UX90 which was taken apart and perhaps there is a few millimeters to be had if the back of the unit is padded to shield the hd from impact. But in a compact unit such as a UX, there is little precious room to squeeze things in. I hope Toshiba has plans to increase capacity for this particular drive size. Hitachi has 1.8 in, 5.0 mm drives, but their ZIF socket may be different.

I looked around too. The TOSHIBA MK-6008GAH is a 5mm version there is also TOSHIBA MK-6006GAH that’s the 8mm version! So the TOSHIBA MK-6008GAH should definatly fit in the UX. I’m going to buy a UX180P next Week. I will try some stuff out. Chaning Mini-PCI / RAM / HD.
