New Sony Vaio Micro PC Coming

Sony USA has pulled the Vaio UX from SonyStyle. A recent thread in the Micro PC Talk forums discusses the fear of Sony, discontinuing the Vaio UX, only after three months since it was announced. While Sony is known for discontinuing a line of products
(e.g. Aibo, CliĆ©, etc.) we got word directly from Sony USA that they are currently out of inventory for the Vaio UX180P. A new “refreshed model” will be posted in SonyStyle on September 19. We don’t have any details on the specs of the new model as of the moment.

It has also been noticed that Sony Japan lets you customize the UX90 with the OS you want (Home or Professional), CPU (1.2/1.06 Ghz Core solo or Celeron M 1.06Ghz),keyboard layout (Japanese or English), MS Office (pre-installed or not), and hard drive size (up to 40GB for the UX90S). The customization image shows a memory option icon but the customization page
doesn’t allow you to customize the on-board RAM of 512 MB. Perhaps this is a clue of what’s to come.

CDW has stated that they have 500 UX180P units arriving the first week of September. Their SONY account rep stated that the new unit will be released in October, have a 40Gb hard drive and !GB of RAM. They did say this is unofficial and the specs could change.

Thanks for the info tairus. I added the Japan link to show the memory icon (highlighted in pink) which somehow is not customizable for the UX90. I’m just pointing out that highr, customizable memory options might be available in the future.

Could also be that one has to return his device for memory upgrade, as it is with some other Vaio models. Their are always such offers from SonyStyle later on!!

40 gig? That’s it?! If the thing is going to be upgraded, upgrade it! At least put 60gb. Load it with Windows tablet edition. Make it ready for Vista premium not just basic. And don’t make it so hard to reboot windows! Should be smooth with any cd drive.

Since the 280P is going to be released soon, wonder if Sony will offer a 512MB memory upgrade soon?

I own a Sony Vaio UX380N Micro PC, just bought it in October of 2007. I have to say that I love the Vista OS, and that Vista still runs very well on my Vaio UX380N; so with that, I do not understand why so many people seem to downgrade Vista the way they do. When I found out that Vista was going to be released, I could not wait for it to become available, and ever since I have had Vista, I have not had one problem with anything. I was having major issues with XP. And my Sony Vaio UX380N is just what it says it is, a micro pc. It isn’t a gaming pc, so why are so many people so upset about not being able to play high-end games on it? Sony plainly says that it isn’t made for gaming, and that it is simply made for ultra portability, and for basic computer needs. People try so hard to make things something that they are not. My vaio 380 works wonderfully, and it really boots Vista fast and efficiently. It is flawless. I take very good care of all of my items, especially my computers, and my Sony Vaio UX380N still looks, feels, and works like it is brand new, like it just came right from the box. I have no problems whatsoever with the Vaio 380. My only gripe right now is that Sony is not providing hardly any driver updates or driver update support at all. Ohh, one more thing; get the Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo for your Vaio UX. Getting that definitely makes a difference in booting and speed. Thanks for listening, and now, go out and buy that Vaio UX man. Buy! Buy! Buy!
