The Sony direct site has them for $132. Go to
http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/

Click "Consumer Direct". On the page that opens choose the part number search, enter "A1215491A" in the search box and click "search". Seems like it's often out of stock, but I ordered one this way and it works just fine.

While the extended battery is expensive, I am quite pleased with the performance and find it essential when traveling. It is a little heavy and slighly bulky, but the ergonomics are good and I feel I get an overall better grip on the UX with the extended battery installed. In conclusion, I highly recommend picking up the extended battery if you do a good deal of traveling.

I have the extended battery:
Cons= very heavy and bulky
Pros= double the battery life, less bulky than the charger.

Normally I take a charged extended battery with me on day or weekend trips instead of the power charger; I simply hibernate and swap out the regular battery when needed. Very easy.

Hope that helps.

I agree on all points. Although, I would settle for a less expensive regual battery, rather than extended. Because the device is mobile, I usually get whatever I need done in a short space of time. If I need more time to work, I'll use a laptop, I don't think it's worth speding hundreds more on a battery for a device that's only designed for temporary work process, and internet access. It's a tool that I use, like having a smaller laptop, and not meant for exclusive use that would need so much power. It's just enough to do some stuff, until I can get to a standard computer

I'm the Supp0rtLinux guy that loaned it to Jenn for the review. I agree its expensive, though my local vendor got it for me for a good price. That said, my UX has its standard battery in it all the time. The extended battery is only for travelling (long flights, etc). Once the normal battery has less than 10% remaining, I switch to the extended. I just wish there were a way to charge it sans the UX. OQO offered this for their batteries... oh well...

It can be had for around $260. Just hit pricegrabber with the Sony part# and a number of reputable suppliers have it for less than $280. This price makes the battery purchase somewhat more palatable.

I think the battery price is very expensive, not worth buying for. There are other options like external battery for UX series at the cost half the price.
