Samsung Q1U (all five of them) Officially Released

Q1U

Today Samsung Made it all clear. Five models of the anticipated Q1 Ultra UMPC (A.K.A - The Q2) will be released. Models vary based on Hard Drive size, and type (yes that means there is a SSD version), Processor Speed, Operating System and more. Prices range from $799 for the 600MHz “Q1U-EL” running Vista Home Premium, and housing a 40GB HDD, to the $1,999 “Q1U-SSD” which naturally has a 32GB SSD, as well as an 800MHz CPU, and HSDPA connectivity among other upgrades. All models share a 7″ 1024 x 600 resolution screen and 1GB of 400MHz RAM.

    Crappy processors! Why’d they bother?

They must be pretty confident that the CPU’s will be able to run Vista, otherwise they won’t be able to move any units. There must be something about the Q1U that redeems it when it comes to speed. Maybe a good L1 Cache, or fast FSB? We’ll see when someone gets their hands on one of these.

Maybe not: Mike Cane (see link under my name) has a very negative review of the QI-U with Vista. He reported the Control Panel loading taking 23 seconds, vs the nearly instant XP load time!

I’m thinking that I’ll get the $799 EL version and downgrade it to XP, if that’s possible.

    Regards,

    Matt
