Zero Weight Keyboard (included video)

I’ve run across a little piece of software called the Zero Weight Keyboard. Its a touch screen based input application, and its actually rather good. While it’s looks might not be very impressive, it can handle some pretty decent input speeds. The fact that it covers the entire screen might seem unorthodox at first but large buttons on this keyboard are really what make it shine. And holding down the right mouse button hides the keyboard to let to peek at how you have been typing. The sound makes it easy to tell when you have correctly pressed a key, as does the way that each key stays highlighted so you know which key was previously pressed.

Its a very small application (62KB) offered for free while its in its ‘development version’. Be sure to head over to the site and download yourself a copy, I took a short video of me typing with the ZWK after about 20 mins of practice. I’m really not a touch screen guy, but I found this to be a pretty good option of entering text. The finished product will hopefully be even better.

Note: You must have/install Microsoft’s .Net Framework for the keyboard to work.
Note 2: Only supports 1024×600 resolution.

Wow, you were going pretty fast on that keyboard. Was that you in the video?

    A few questions:

    1) Did it feel more comfortable to maneuver around on that virtual keyboard than on the native hardware keyboard the UX has?

    2) Any easy way to turn off those beeps?

    3) Does it work in any application or you type in its own program and need to cut/paste later?

Yes that was me in the video -

    1) I thought it was pretty good for being a touch screen keyboard, the beeps kind of take the place of the actual feel of real keys, so I find it harder to type when I turn them off, because you can’t be sure if you hit the key, or just moved the mouse over it.

    2) Check the readme

    3) It works in any application, its inputs function just like a regular keyboard ie: where ever you put your cursor, thats where the text will go.
