View Full Version : Review of Sony UX leather case (VGP-CCUX1)
I got the official UX leather case (VGP-CCUX1) recently and wrote up a review (http://www.pocketables.net/2007/01/review_sony_vai.html) with lots of pictures that I thought some of you may be interested in.
I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for great cases for my UX180P, especially ones made by Sony.
Thanks for the Review i just ordered this case 2 days ago the cheapest place that i found it was on newegg.com :)

I am not sure but I think I like that case, I do not really like the case included with the UX
Overall how do you like the case compared to the original UX ?

I also ordered this case a few days ago from Sonystyle with my 20% off e-coupon for registering my TX. It should come this week. I love cases too. Let's hope it does loosen up with time and fit the UX better. Did you feel it had a better fit with just the standard battery?
I don't have the extended battery anymore (the one I reviewed was on loan from Supp0rtLinux), but the sides of the case have enough give to accommodate it. It won't look very nice with one side of the case bulging out and everything, but it should fit just fine.
Right now, I like the included case better. The UX slips in and out of it more easily and I've been using it since July so am just really used to it at this point. The leather on the CCUX1 is still a bit too tight so it often ends up flicking the UX's power switch and turning the unit on.
I would use the hold function but my switch is getting a bit loose, so I try not to touch it at all.
Thanks for your comments :)

Jenn, I now have your blog bookmarked, and I love to read it. My question to you though is, how does one get their hands on all that stuff to test. Do you seriously just buy it all?
Oh and ya thought I might pop this question too, call me immature, but I am assuming your a woman, how does one such as yourself get into the world of UMPC's? I mean not offense by this either : )

I wonder if the magnets should be of concern with the HDD. I doubt that they are strong enough to penetrate the casing on the UX as well as that of the HDD. I guess I just can't rationalize the use of magnets in close proximity to materials that are magnetically sensitive.

I wonder about stuff like that too. What can magnets do to a SSD? Is it less of a risk?

Jenn, I got the case today. I saw what you meant about the antenna or whatever protrudes out on top there. But try this: put it in the other way. t wks much btter that wat for me; it closes much more easily. Strange, but it works. The case is great and is very elegant/professional looking. (Oh, by the way, might just be me, but it seems to have a smaller footprint this way too (Than the original). Might just be an optical illusion though!)

My main concern is the fact that it looks like a man bag... i would love to get one but well you know i get that much crap about this thing as it is!

Yeah, I guess it could look like a purse type thing t you carried it all by its lonesome. I usually have it one of my maxpedition bags and pull it out as needed. But I do feel safe chucking the UX in a backpack in the leather case...it has enough protection to do that. I never would have put that UX in with a case. And this one is a bit smaller than the original one. Anyway, it works for me.

Generally i dont carry a backpack around unless im going away so that was why i was thinking that... will have a closer look at it as its not*too* expensive...

Expensive...that's a tough one. Despite whatever I may tell my wife or other people, the reality is a lot of these purchases aren't fully rational. I mean hey, I'm a gadget freak; I love this stuff. I save money on toilet paper and buy that on sale. I stock up on laundry soap and buy it in bulk. But my toys, well that's an entirely different matter.

Haha, i'm exactly the same. Single-ply is usually the cheapest :D

Aw, thanks! I actually have an FAQ (http://www.pocketables.net/faq.html) up that addresses your questions. I always ask for electronics for my birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day, anniversaries, etc., so it's easy to accrue a collection. Some gals love shoes. I love gadgets :)
I have no idea how I became so obsessed with UMPCs and other handtops. I used to have a Sony PictureBook and a NEC MobilePro, which I guess was my first introduction into the form factor. I also have a thing for miniatures and keyboards. I don't remember how I first stumbled onto the UX, but now I'm way past the point of no return.
@UXaficionado: Thanks for the tip about flipping the UX upside down. It does fit a lot better that way, but I don't like keeping her on her head!

Thanks for the response Jenn, I think its really cool to get opinions from someone such as youself on all these different gadgets. I checked out your list of stuff you own, and wow you have tons of stuff, might I ask which 'set' your currently using? By set I means I'm guessing you probably take with you one gadget from each category when you go out and such, which ones do you take when you have so many to choose from?
