I have just installed Vaio Control center today....and TBH it is giving me quite a few problems. Quite a lot of the things in the Control Center don't actually work.....when I click on them they give me the following (annoying) response "You can't launch".

Here is a list of the things which give me this stupid message:

Performance
Printer Port
Bass Boost
S Button (I dont even know what this does!)

Does anyone else get this problem? Are there any fixes for the problem?

Thanks a lot

Sorry but I must be the only one on here that has left the original OS installed on the unit just becasue I love the sony software that they bundle with the VAIO units. I looked all over the UX180 and do not find any software installed called Vaio Control. There is Vaio Central but that's just the documentaion for the unit. Where did you locate this software? Do you have the US or imported unit form Japan. Just curious.

Here's my guess. I think the Vaio Control software is a Vaio laptop standard software. Its features however are not applicable for all models that's why some of them are greyed out.

RocketMan, you and I have the same system, the US version of the UX180. It took me a while to find the software also. I couldn't find it from searching through the programs. You launch it by pressing the button that's above the wireless on/off switch. The button has dotted lines and a check mark. Hope this helps.

This thing is called " Touch Launcher"! You can also find it c:\program files\Sony .
The button settings are done with the Vaio setup program (also called Vaio Settings).

So what's the problem with the touch launcher?

I think Reggie is right....S button and Bass boost etc. were never intended for the UX series laptops, but due to Sony's laziness they left the settings in the software. I think I will probably just uninstall the Control Center as I cannot see that much use for it. Almost everything in the Control Center can be changed via Control Panel.

Thanks Floodguy. Sorry about that, it's confusing keeping track of all the names for these programs and buttons.

But meanwhile, no one has indicated just how one reinstalls the Vaio Central applet.

Again this is not the touch panel or touch screen contols, but a multi-tabbed applet that allows you to check system information, modify system settings, etc., all from a central location, much like, as another put it, the Tweak UI powertoy. In the original install I believe it is right off of All Programs in the Start menu.

Nowhere on the recovery DVDs can I find this applet nor have I had any success scouring the Internet. I have seen several false start topics in blogs and forums, but they all end up with no one actually mentioning how to get the Vaio Central software if needed for a reinstall.

So, any ideas? If anyone knows, one of the folks on this forum should, I would imagine:-)

I assume you mean this (jap. version):

12

You can find this on your recovery DVD under \Vaio\Applications\Vaio Control Center .

That looks right but, alas, there is no folder structure "\Vaio\Applications\Vaio Control Center" found on either of the two recovery DVDs I created from my UX180P.

I guess the search continues:-(

I did both a manual search and Windows search of every folder/file on both recovery DVDs generated by my UX180P. The Vaio Control Center software/path that was listed is not on my recovery DVDs.

I don't doubt that you see it on your DVDs, but it is not on mine. Any way I can get the files from one of you? :-)

Here is the DVD tree. You can see it is there (red).
I only have the japanese version. If this is the right one, I will sent it to you.

Floodguy:

I really appreciate your help and I was never doubting what you saw.
But the Recovery DVDs created from the US UX180P do not have that Vaio folder on it at all. In fact, when you put the first DVD in the drive and choose to install individual drivers/apps, the listing of apps and drivers appears with the Vaio Control Center nowhere to be found. Even so, on a factory fresh UX180P, that applet is installed on the device so that is why it has been a real puzzler for me.

Anyway, I would like to have a copy of the software but would there not be a problem trying to install/run it on a native US device?

Thanks,
Larry
