View Full Version : which one do you think is worth it?
Hello all,
I first have to say that I <3 this site. and everybody is great for all the info.
I am looking into getting a ux pc. But i'm stumped on which one to get? I definatly don't need the EDGE at all. But i'm concered on the disk space. What are the advantages on a flash drive than a regular hd? which one would you all buy and why?
I'm stumped =( please help.
Thanks!

Welcome to the site jrky!
If you would rather get a Compact Flash slot rather then EDGE, then you might as well go for the Japanese UX50/UX90 models or the UX17 from Asia & Australia.
You'll get a faster performance with the flash drive but I'm not sure if the 16GB flash drive space will be enough for you. Also, consider the price factor too since flash drives are still very expensive, bumping the UX price higher than the ones with standard hard drives.
Good luck!

The video from akibara does not show a huge difference in booting speed. I m anot sure that's worth a grand. The black color is awesome.
I have the UX90S with 16GB NSSB
Fore Program and Database application I use the fast 16GB NSSB.
Music and data are on 8GB CF& 4GB MS. Memory more than needed and it is faster than my Dell 380 Precision workstation with an Adaptec Raid 0 SCSI 15000rpm HD system.
With

you get it fore the same price I pay in HongKong

Hi ,
can you post more experience ?
How do you liek it so far
.Is the UX 90 worth extra 1000 bucks compared with Ux 180.
Thanks
The US UX180P is a sponsert Cingular version ther for the CF slot is blockt with the EDGE modul.
From Battery live I find to use the UX as a phone is not working, as you still need a phone you can use this as a modem as well.
The UX90S is a differed Baby. It is optimized for high speed and portability.
From my point of view HD’s are not a good solution for potable devices. Me and the most of my friends have experienced HD’s crashes on there notebooks.
So you will have more speed, reliability and Battery time as well as a lighter unit with the NSSB version

Thanks wolf,
The video from akibhara news does not look very promising in terms of speed. What do you think??
you know its 1000bucks more .
I am seriuosly thinking about using that for the next gadget . You know something else will pop up in 6months to a year .

I love the idea of solid state HD, but the higher costs and low capacity does not work for me. 16GB? Windows Vista will take half of that!

I think you should really think long and hard about what you are going to use it for and what are the strengths / weaknesses of each option v's how much you are prepared to pay.
For me personally 16gb memory was a concern at first - I know that I want Windows / maybe vista later (not sure on that though) and office. Thee is a sony suite which will take care of music, pics and vids - which I can put content on either CF or memory stick - for future proof you can currently get 8gb CF cards, but Samsung for example are working on 16gb and 32gb versions - cf has a theoretical capacity of 137gb or something like that - this has to yet be created of course, but there is capacity. This is a more expensive option without doubt - so why?
Well speed comparisions are one thing but I wanted to get the fastest I could knowing that the software be it now or in the future with vista would slow it down - so get as future proof as poss. 16gb - how long will that be enough memory? - Even with space hungary Vista - theres not alot more I need to put on it. Music / data / vid can be put on the cards and therefore transferrable with other gadgets I have. I also have a 40gb harddrive in the shape of my vaio pocket.
And I love the colour - think the keyboard stands out more.
Now I bought the UX50 first - tried it, but felt that the 16gb was worth moving to - I sold my UX (ebay is great) and upgraded - it cost more but I could afford it and was willing to pay for it and that is the crux.
So in a nut shell - if the 16gb is too expensive or not enough memory for you - either go for the UX50 or 180 depending on whether you want cf or edge. If you want CF with 1.2 chip in it - go for the UX90 - also think about your language ability / technical skill in understanding what buying a foreign unit means to you - if its difficult - dont do it. You can get warranties for these things and this forum will always help - but it is another consideration.
My 16gb UX90ps is in the post!
