As the title says, is it normal that the fan is constantly on? Thanks.

Maybe not "always" on, but once it starts don't expect it to stop.
The short answer: Yes (at least mine is)

Mine is on when connected to AC. Running on battery, the fan isn't on all the time.

Hmm, mine is on all the time (ac or battery). I have adjusted the power properly but that didn't help. It's not like I am running anything intensive either. Do I have a faulty machine?

Mine is the same way, fan is always on, whether on AC or battery.

btw, I have a 180p with 1.2ghz core solo. I don't know if that makes any difference.

Are you running at the full 1.2GHz? (right-click on My Computer)

A program you can try to control the SpeedStep function in the CPU is SpeedSwitchXP. Worked well on every Intel Pentium CPU I've used it on...

No, I have tried all 3 profiles (performance, adaptive, battery). The fan is on for all of them.

I have my power settings set so it's at top performance when plugged in, and everything 'adaptive' or equivilent when on battery. I also have screen brightness and fan set to their lowest on battery power, and I notice it turn on and off depending on my use while on battery, and it's always on and loud when plugged in. Don't know if that helps, but that's my experience.
