with the minimal RAM we have, as well as the other factors; we have to tend with a security software that is just a performance hog...
i only takes about 49 secs for the HDD-model UX to boot up; but it wouldnt be around 2 to 3 minutes BEFORE i can really do anything... this extra minutes are being used up by Symantec to prime itself up - doing scans, juding whether your computer is "green" or not, etc.
any suggestions for a work-around?
thanks!!!

Agree, Symantec is not suitable for UX.
Using Kaspersky now and it a lot faster.

unfortunately, i always have had a bad experience with Symantec products... as in whenever i try to uninstall them - they totally TRASH my system. anybody had this experiences before?
i was also planning to replace it with some other antivirus softwares that i have (i still have some other licenses available); but for this to happen - i think that i would need a complete CLEAN install from scratch (considering it is Norton)...

On all my Vaio's the first thing I do is removing the Symatec software. With every new version they release, the software gets slower and slower, the update and other info bubbles that appear at the system tray, are getting more and more annoying. I still have existing licenses til the end of the year, but I already jumped over NOD32. Though, from the license price not much different to Symantec, is very fast and much more easier to setup.

What programs do you use instead of Symantec?

I'm using NOD32 (http://www.nod32.com). It's not that cheap, but it fast and works very well. Support is also great. And a really fast database update. Works with Office 2007 B2 too.
