Here are my thoughts:

ADV of Q1:
1. Display is bigger
2. 2 microphones
3. 2 speakers
4. Buit-in stand
5. Bigger HDD
6. Upgredable RAM
7. All ports are already on-board
8. Lower prise (and for accessories also!!!)
9. Nice AVS (thats cool)

DisADV of Q1
1. It is bigges.
2. Processor is 900 (but no lags)

ADV of UX50
1. Small
2. 2 cameras (since I have sonyericsson k750... so you understood ^_^ )
3. finger-print sensor (but I don't use it)
(thats all for me here =))

DisAdv of UX50
1. Small screen... I am getting tired for about 15-20 minutes
2. No built-in stand
3. only 1 usb (so i have to take dock everywhere I want to use mouse and keaboard)
4. No built in ports (and small port-replicator for UX is inconvinent)
5. Even if i had stand i won't be able to charge it (GREATE SONY!!!! YOU HAVE GOT ME!!!)

If you can think of only 1 real advantage of using the UX I say dump it and get the Q1 quick as you can. Good luck.

Q1 gets hot easily after long use . 18-22 second boot time with SSD Q1(2400 USD). One
SSD has fan noise.
MY UX 90 looks better .
Q1 is as thick as ux without keyboard.
I am waiting for your review as well.

Thank you very much for your attention ^_^...
1. No, my friend owning Q1... and wile he is serfing InterNet (WiFi) cooler is on.. BUT IT turnes off for 2-3 minutes... than again... and so (Q1 in the hands). And while i am serfing (UX in the hands... WiFI... etc.) UX's cooler turns off only for 30 sec max. SO WHAT do you think now? =)
2. Yes it is thick without keaboard... but... ONE MOMENT!!! It has a stand (and charging while on it). UX NO!
3. For me taking UX50 with the dock is the same to take ONLY Q1. But you see.... it takes the same space but what do we have.. we will be able to have 7" screen and etc... and the same spase in your bag! =)

Now you understood what I was talking about? =)

Hi,

I have both UX and Q1 and love both equally, but with the same use, Q1 DOES get hotter.
My UX DID come with a stand.
Q1 does have larger screen, but UX's screen has higher resolution and is crisper, easier on the eyes.

Just thought you might want a bit of objectivity :-)

I know everything... but you dismissed my words that: "But you see.... it takes the same space but what do we have.. we will be able to have 7" screen and etc... and the same spase in your bag! =)"
If i want to charge device when i can... and i have to use 2 usb... so i have to take UX's stand with me. And when you take Q1 everything is ALREADY on-board, and you don't have to plug into the device small replicator to use LAN for example...
And let me think.... you should know that for the films and music Q1 is also better.... =)

Sorry, I dont mean to be rude, but why are you going on about this again. Just buy a Q1 and stop moaning. Who's stopping you, you dont need permission from everyone here to change to a Q1.

I just wanted to know that i am not alone ^_^ (I think that UX is not so mobile than everybody think) I personaly think that there is some "line" of minimizing PC... Is Q1 is better and for what... I will tell you tomorrow when get it =)

Hi,

I do NOT dismiss your words - whichever device you prefer is purely your choice and I will not try to convince you one way or the other. What I have said is that while Q1 DOES have 7" screen, UX DOES have higher resolution. In many instances it means that, for example, a webpage won't fit onto Q1's screen and you will have to do much more scrolling.
If you cared to explain how Q1 is better for music/movies, I might agree/disagree. As it stands, what you said is merely a statement, not backed up by any fact.
Frankly, I do not care which machine you use. I use both and love both equally. I also see advantages and shortcoming of both. What I see in your comments is lack of objectivity and a lot of misinformation though. I had tried to help, but you do not seem interested in comments from anyone, your mind is already made up. Fair enough.

for 4 USB ports i'm carrying very small USB hub with integrted short cable, so no need to carry any additional cable.
strange to see how you complain about carrying stand to charge, but not complaining about carrying AC adaptor. I don't see reason to buy microPC if you're planing to carry all accessories all the time. It's ridiculous! Buy fullfeatured notebook like Sony SZ (or similal) and it will take LESS space in your bag comparing to all accessories for UX.
MicroPC supposed to be carried alone, without accessories to save space in bag.

At home i use UX's port replicator with native AC adaptor, external DVD-RW, and external Monitor+Mouse+Keyboard.
At work i use NET+VGA dongle with additionaly bought 3rd part AC adaptor with external Monitor+Mouse+Keyboard.
When i'm not at home or work i use UX's integrated accessories. Even standard battery capacity is enough to do some urgent quick task outside.
This way of using micropc is supposed to.. IMHO.

MicroPC actually aren't game machine, aren't DVD/File player, aren't web browser. For these task in extremal way of using there are specific computers like PSP, iPod, PDA.
MicroPC is TOO universal device to do all tasks better than specific devices.
What to use (OQO, Q1, UX) - everyone can choose by himself. and all these devices almost the same in terms of carrying. If you want carry all accessories then you willl have to bring BIG bad ;)

Like Southbound747 said, competition is good. And the UX is the answer from Sony against the UMPC and those new PDA like mobile phones from HTC, Sharp, etc. . Even, I like the UMPC form factor too, I never intended to buy one. I was still using my U50+ at that time. If Sony hadn't released the UX, I would have looked for a good second hands U70/U71 device just to stay with Vaio line ( ahm with Sony).

@VeiSong
Giving an advice here at the board is nearly impossible, cause as with other things too, a computer also depends on personal taste and use. So if you find the Q1 is better suited for you, go out and purchase one. If you find, you like the UX too, you can anytime use both. If not, you can sell your UX. Someone will be glad to buy and use it.

For me personally spoken, there good things and there are bad things with UX. But I know about them and how to deal with them (some o them I already knew when I bought it) and to use my UX at best. And every time I use the UX, I'm impressed about the technology behind it.
We are too much technology spoiled nowadays.

I own both and I can tell you that your thoughts are WRONG. ;)
1. Q1 Display is bigger but quality sucks
2. 2 microphones on the Q1 are nice but what for? Skype works fine with the UX models, even with one microphone
3. 2 speakers on the Q1 are nice but what for? You can't listen to high quality music over the speakers.
4. Bigger HDD on the Q1? I agree. But 10 GB difference aren't THAT much considering the downside of the Q1 "package".
5. RAM is upgradeable, right. Unfortunately you void the warranty if you do it yourself but the extra 512 MB RAM really speed up the Q1, I agree.
6. the 900er processor is NOT an Intel Core Solo or Pentium M processor but unfortunately the low budget Celeron processor, meaning: it may be sufficient for lot of stuff but if you turn up the "heat" (multimedia, etc.), it is too "weak".

I could continue to compare both but after owning the Q1 first, I don't use it anymore (just from time to time as a "web pad" for internet surfing in my living room). The reason? The UX series has a small but superb screen. I use it for watching iTunes videos/series and converted movies, it works like a charm.
The Q1 is also too big for me and lacks a built-in keyboard. I hardly use the UX series keyboard but when I need it, it comes in very handy.

From my point of view, the UX series wins against the Q1 easily. There are only a few things missing on the UX series and I'm pretty sure that Sony will take care of that sooner or later:
1. 512 RAM (1 Gig RAM are mandatory on a modern Windows computer)
2. 30 GB HDD (60 GB HDD is mandatory, SSDD should have 32 GB and not 16 GB)
3. battery with at least 5000 mAh capacity (for 3-4 hours)
4. UMTS modem instead of EDGE modem
5. fan-less design (the fan noise is sometimes annoying)

To be honest: I don't understand why Sony didn't put 1 Gig into the UX series and a larger HDD. I also don't understand why it wasn't possible to create a fan-less design. I love to watch movies/videos in bed before going to sleep but it is impossible to do that with the UX series because the fan noise wakes up/annoys my wife.

As always: Sony isn't capable of doing something 100% right, always only 80% or maybe 85% but never 99 or 100%. The UX series has so much potential but the high price tag and the not quite impressive specs may change a success story to a sad story sooner or later. I just hope that the competition keeps the pressure up, so Sony HAS to come up with more impressive UX models. The SSDD UX variants surely isn't one of those impressive models, I installed all my programs on my UX50 and I have barely 17 GB left. Do the math. ;)

"I installed all my programs on my UX50 and I have barely 17 GB left. Do the math."
you're lucky! i had only 5GB free on 30GB drive after installed all programms i'm using ;)
so, i upgraded to 60 :)

more RAM is badly needed :(

I like my UX, it's personal for everybody, but TODAY I compared my UX50 to the Q1 in the shop... Yes... I will change my UX to the Q1 (I am waiting for my friend which will give me Q1 with keaboard and DVD (RW+-) insted of UX50... I agree that UX is smaller and better done, but as I said it is my PERSONAL decicion to change it (i can work with it only for 20 minutes and with Q1 today I spent all his "battery life" (2:51) and there were 11% more... very nice for web serfing...

So sorry about that guys but it seems that I can soon (tomorrow) become Q1 owner... =( I am not happy because I really like UX! but...

I have both as well. My eyes get tired on the UX50 because it is so small, but if you ask me, the Q1 is HORRIBLE .. Can't tell you how many times I turned it on only to find out that I can't hit the correct keys with the stylus - so I can't log on without getting my USB keyboard plugged it. NOT ONLY THAT .. The thumb does NOT move the mouse on the Q1 .. It will scroll .. but you can't move the curser across the screen with the thumb mouse on the Q1 and there isn't a right or left clicker on the Q1 .. I basically hate it .. so you can buy mine !!

UX is not perfect, but it's most fast UMPS at the moment.
I will wait for more faster UMPC before change it to another. I hope there will be Core Duo 2GHz with at least 1GB RAM. these two things are definately absent in UX. everything else are ok.

So, which is best for PDA use? I'd also like to know more differences and which is better at what etc. I'm debating both devices. I like the idea of the cheaper Q1, but love the idea of having keyboard on the UX.

I'm not going to use it just for PDA. I can't seem to find a PDA that has a good keyboard and good screen.

oqo Q1?

it sucked!!

it's the worst handtop ever, i have 4 adapters burnt out already and same to several foreign members (u can read this on handtops.com forum, several members stated out the same problem) who owned OQO 01 or 01+ have the same issue

the adapter only doing fine on several countries, try to bring ur OQO when u travel to austria, denmark or sweden, asia countries, it will burnt out and u have no adapter to charge the worst handtop, and u r stucked

i only use my oqo 01+ for like 15 hours max since i got it

and SONY's products is always the best, i have U8G which is working super great for me still
