I'm a newbie, so please pardon the ignorance...
How do I remove (delete) Vista and boot my XP cd from my external usb drive? I guess what I'm asking is what are the basic steps to take in order to get from the installed UX380N Vista Business OS before running the actual XP install?
I appreciate any help, thanx!
If you bought your UX390 brand new you will have a hidden recovery partition, if you would like to keep this intact for a later date you DO NOT NEED to create any new partitions when installing Windows XP, all you need to do is select the partition where Windows Vista is installed, this would be the larger partition, the partitions will be listed in KB's so the size for example may be something like 40000KB's which is 40GB's ok ?
Back to what I was saying, when you select the partition where Windows Vista is installed it will ask if you want to format it, YES YOU DO because you want this partition to be empty for a fresh XP installation. One more thing, if you think you will never use that POS Vista ever again you can just delete all partitions and re-create one the full size of the hard drive, if I have lost you this is all happening when you boot the Windows XP CD after you press F8 to accept the End User License Agreement or EULA!
I do apologise if this sounds kind of noobish or sounds a little complicated, I have no idea your experience with PC's. I will also add that for this ( installing XP ) to be possible you will need an external USB CD/DVD drive you can either buy one of the expensive Slim Sony drives or buy an standard 5.25 CD/DVD drive for a standard computer and buy an external case for it, I have used both styles and they work great, best if you check out the thread at the forum here listing all the drives that are known to be working... that being said, most do I just randomly used one I had lying around the house!
Installing the Windows XP - Basic Driver and Application pack, you are doing this after Windows XP has been installed onto your UX, this is pretty straight forward. First you will need to extract the driver pack with a program called 7zip or WinRAR, you can either extract the archive on your UX or on your main computer and just transfer the driver pack onto your UX in the extracted form. Now to install the pack just start with the first # and work your way to the last #, if there are any crucial instruction's usually named README best to check those out!

Hi guys,
I am a newbie also and I had a friend install XP on an new 380n that I just bought. He said that he can not find the driver for the camera. Does anyone know where I can get this?
Thank you!!
thank sull for that reply, he really sent that explanation to me and I just forwarded it to you
by the way I have an external LG DVD Optical dive and it works staright off the PC no AC supply needed...and it works great.
PS..you have to get the comp. to boot up from the Ext Drive, you do that by pressing ESC at the very first screen, and then choose to boot from the External optical Drive...then follow the rest of the instructions...also, be prepared that not all of Sul's drivers will work right away when you instal them, some of them by me only installed after I finished all the drivers, and then some only installed after I updated my comp. from Microsoft.
Good Luck
