Default UX Freezing problem
Has any of you UX owners encounter freezing issues?

For example, you are using it and move it around and the whole system just freezes. You can still move the mouse cursor, the screen is still on, but you just can't click on anything. Also, the HDD activity LED is completely off regardless of you do. You have to power-cycle to restart.

Then, when you use the hold/unhold switch, does your unit freeze upon unholding the system sometimes?
Reference: http://www.micropctalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159 (no i didn't update the cingular software)

Finally, does your unit freeze when starting Windows with the wireless switch on?

My unit has all of the above problems so it's going back. Yes I have done full system recovery and that really didn't help. The problems came back.

I checked notebookreviews.com and apparently a lot of SZ-series owners have this problem. I think it has to do with the HDD's g-protection.

I'm having that problem too. However my 180 didn't start doing it until I put the 60g Toshiba HDD in...... My pointer also freezes along with the keys and touch panel. I have to reboot to get it going again. Help someone! Have recovered three times.

I've noticed it only once since I've had it where it didn't recognize any clicks as described above.

However I didn't have to reboot. What I did was to standbye it via the power switch and then unstandbye it (for lack of a more precise term) at which time it seemed to recover and function correctly again.

I am experiencing this issue when the MS autoupdates kick in with their little yellow shield. lasts for about 30 seconds and then goes away.

I have rescheduled it all to once a week (wednesdays since patches usually come out on tuesdays) rather than daily and asking the user before downloading. this seems to be a bit better from there..

I dont think this has anything to do with the UX, I've experiences major bootup slowdowns a desktop and laptop. Seems that a process 'svhost' is taking up 100% processor time during bootup, and it takes a couple of minutes before it lets the process go. It does seem to be autoupdate, which I turned off.

The freezing problem I described is a hardware/software problem on Sony's part. If you problem is different than what I described, it's not the same problem.

If you turn off HDD protection, you will not get the freezing problem.

Where/how do I turn off HDD Protection?

You can shake your unit until the HDD Protection popup shows up in the system tray. It will ask you to click the popup if you want to configure the settings.

The other way to access the configuration utility is by running C:\Program Files\Sony\HDD Protection\xyz.exe". I forgot the exact file name.
