I dont use it for everything but it is used everyday. My main rig is a quad 9550 with tri-sli 280 H2OC's and a 30" dell running at 2560 x 1600. The ux's are great for mobility but I couldn't use it as my only rig. I also have a dell m1730 wth twin 9800's for gaming on the go but thats a bit of a beast to carry around!!

My UX280 is great for being small & mobile. I needed a pc that: ran full XP; had a keyboard; had touchscreen. (laptops don't really work well in your lap, especially sitting in a car. )
Panasonic toughbooks are great but $$$ for anything over a pentium II. alot of tablet pcs don't got no keyboard. the OQO is orphaned/dead. the twist & flip lcd hinges on fujitsu & hp look downright scary for reliability. Many netbooks don't have touchscreens.
Since Sony is generally a decent name for quality & support, UX it was. That being said, I use it every few days & probably wouldn't mind if it was a little bigger so that it had a 5.5-6 inch screen. So for me it's a niche device that's used for a single purpose. I already have desktops & laptop at home & work.

Going to get on the road early this morning. I see my UX has made it to Florida. It would be great if it was already unlocked but I won't count on it. I am trying to remember unlocking from long ago. Did I need the ATT sim card to get started? If so --- I don't know if I have one .. or if mine will come with one ..

I see the unlock posts are from long ago mostly .. They are being unlocked running XP. Is Vista is a problem? With my first UX I called Sony, the tech actually logged into my computer and unlocked it. That old-good news and post is probably here somewhere .. I am hoping the process is easier - not harder - than it was several years ago. Any answers or warnings ??

If Sony updated the 390N (thinner, faster, capacitive screen) then I would buy another. I have an Android smartphone which is great for quick web browsing on-the-go, but the 390N just can't be beat for times when I need to use a real computer but for whatever reason, don't have a real computer available.

Work usage aside (280-ssd), the UX is a neat techno toy: I DID buy another. My 380 (win7) is to play around with & I got another "as-is for parts" 280 that I tinker/mod with. (If there was something like a blackberry that ran XP and had a usb-master port I'd get it )

I posted this in the wireless forum also, but in case nobody reads that I hope you don't mind if I post it here too.

I got the unlock code from Sony.
I installed hyperterminal.
I do NOT have a Cingular sim card.

Is this a dead end ??

OR .... If I borrow a cingular sim from someone, will I hurt their card while I try and unlock my computer ?

The card will not be hurt by the unlock process. You could borrow one without messing it up. I used to have a whole pile of them. I would send you one for free if I could find it.
