Hi all,
I'm currently considering upgrading my UX from Windows XP to Windows 7. My main concern is that my hard drive is only 40GB, and it said on the Microsoft website that Windows 7 requires 16GB of hard drive space. Can anyone confirm this? Cos if its true, then it would not be wise for me to upgrade. Thanks! |

I installed windows 7 on my ux37 and I have a 32GB SSD. Total space it took up as I recall was 7-8GB. Can any one confirm? I don't have the exact figure as I have lots of stuff on my ux now but I remember still having around 22-23GB free space after the Windows 7 install.

According to the Microsoft Windows 7 developers, the "footprint" of Windows 7 will grow to about 16GBs, so they suggest installing Win 7 on a HDD bigger than 16 GBs to allow the paging file to grow (to about 1.5 ~ 3 times of size of your RAM).

A wise Migrant Worker on a train from Xian to Inner Mongolia advised me once on this self same subject-"If you download a decent Windows 7-loader from a respectable Chinese site(or BTjunkie) then you can keep your new programme installation down to a few GB- [Bare bones is the only bones you need, not extra junk] that way saving space"
