What are my options to downgrade Vista to XP on my 380N?
I have a retail XP disk that I was planning to use on some old car pc project, so from the license perspective I am covered, but I would appreciate if I could use XP recovery disks. |

You can clone an existing XP install from another UX (if you have one). Anh also had a XP pro backup image that one could ghost, but that upload site gave me a message that it no longer does filesharing.
The XP recovery discs for a UX180 or280 will only work on those models. I have no idea where the "model check" is on those discs. I suppose that you can have anh "rewrite" the model info on the mobo to ID as a 280, but that seems a little extreme. Plus, if you use the recovery disks, you get 100% proper- factory installed drivers & utilities, but you end up with gigs of crapware that takes hours to clean up.

What about non-US models? From what I was able to read here these do not have model checks.

I can't say for certain, but I doubt it. The non-US drivers & utilities might not have model checks, but a while back some forum members tried to use UX1XN (uk spec UX390) vista recovery discs on a UX390 (& other US models) & it didn't work. It's really silly/stupid considering all the UX model hardware is nearly identical, but that's $ony for ya.
