If you have to do this again, use a thin tool to gently pry the sides of the metal frame out a little, & the touchpanel will unclip from the lcd (makes it easier & safer to cut the panel off.) You could probably get some thin Lexan sheet (hobby shop), cut it to UX size & glue it to the panel frame. clip it back in place- it would probably work better than a screen protector. I always wonder why none of the online shops ever sell 4.5" touch panels. There have been some that were close in size, but were only 80% transparency- that makes the UX screen look grainy & fuzzy. There are some that still sell the "complete" lcd (but not the touchpanel) & they usually have a minimum order of 5, or 10, or 50 units. oh well

well actually you cannot remove the panel with a little tug cause of the adhiesive but maybe with some sort of solvent
