Default Error 679
Hi All.
I'm new to the forum. I have recently bought a UX-180P and when trying to connect to the Cingular network, i keep getting "error 679. cannot find network". I have good signal strenght, have the phone unlocked, have loaded the latest ATT connection manager, but no luck.
Any suggestions?

Andrew

Andrew- when I recently did some switching on my account (required a new SIM card) I got error 679 for the first time. I had to get a 2nd new SIM card and it seemed to clear up the problem.

Is this your first time using the WWAN? If not, have you had any successful connections?

FYI

You may want to look at:
http://www.wireless.att.com/business...topconnect.pdf

Just to make sure your settings are all correct.
best

Thanks for the quick replies.
I had it working originally and managed to unlock it to use T-mobile. However, since then I did a full re-install as I had bought the device second hand and vestiges of the old owner still remained.
I re-installed the drivers, but since then cannot get it to work. I have now installed the ATT communication manager but still no luck.
The SIM card I originally had in there is now expired so I cannot use it. I tried putting in a friends cingular SIM card, but still no luck.
Sprout: I downloaded the instructions you pointed me too, but have already downloaded the new ATT communication manager, so it is not quite apprpriate. I may try re-installing the last Cingular version then see what I can do.
Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Andrew

Andrew,

Are you still attempting to get onto the T-Mobile network or a ATT one? as they may require different settings.

The link I provided is the latest from ATT. yes I realize that they still say "Cingular" but that was directly from the ATT website as it is now.

Also from these forums:

After the CCM software update, then I tried to connect to the recommended APN's "internet2.voicestream.com" or "internet3.voicestream.com". They didn't work for me.

I had to call T-Mobile technical support to resolve the Error 679: The system could not detect the carrier. T-Mobile Tech Supp gave the solution that worked for me.

The solution is to use the APN "wap.voicestream.com". I have no problems at all using this APN even though I had reservations about it thinking that the "wap" prefix meant that this would mean I would see a limited view of the Internet like small cell phone devices have. I am happy to see that this is not the case. I have the full view of the Internet browser pages on my UX380N.

So I am adding "wap.voicestream.com" to the list of APN's in this thread that were mentioned to try since the other ones that didn't work for me but they may work for others successfully. The more choices that we have the better that we can help someone else in the future that would be reading this thread.

Thank you all for your helpful insight in contributing to this forum.

Maybe that will help...

Well, thanks to your help here on this forum, I finally managed to get connected again via T-mobile (internet2.voicestream.com). I reloaded the cingular driver, followed the settings advice and Voila, it worked. I have since upgraded to the new ATT connection manager and it is still working.

Thanks again
Andrew
