Either the driver is not installing correctly, or the card is defective.

Try manually changing the driver to a different one.

Did you get it fixed - I have the same problem "This device cannot start (Code 10)"
I have the latest driver still doesn't work (un-installed the old one and installed the new one XP SP3) I tried 2 brand new cards both of them are failing to start (unlikely this is hardware problem) Model 533AN_MMW Intel WiFi Link 5300.

Exclamation
got it fixed ,

what u need to do is download the latest sw w/ drivers pack from intel site its like 12.3.4.9 version
after u install the intel sw in the dir in prpgram files/intel/wifi/drivers u will find 2 exectuteables u have to run them to make the intel sw recognize the card(before u do that i recommend writing down version nuber of the current driver and then deleting the card from ur list in the hw list in my computer/propreties)

the nature of the problem we are facing is that the different version of sw and driver dont work together and for some reason the driver doesnt updtate during sw install , u need to do it manually

good luck

There are two versions of the card. One is for generic PCs, like the UX, and the other is custom for IBM and Toshiba laptops. The custom version accommodates oddities in the IBM and Toshiba BIOS images, but makes it incompatible with "normal" machines. I think it has something to do with the I/O mappings.

In any event, the same thing happened to me, and you'll need to exchange for the normal version.
