It would be hard to believe that for the work involved, replacing with faster RAM would yield any significant benefits..if any perceptible benefits...maybe others can weigh in.

Yes, but not just low speeds the service itself is not built into all cell phone towers ... they are slow to upgrade the older units I guess.
