Driver for Intel 4965AGN

Postby sum1quiet » Sat Nov 28, 2009 16:31

Hi all! Firstly I must say what great work you're doing getting OS X to run properly on our UX*!

After some playing around, I have managed to get iPC 10.5.7 installed on my UX180P however it is not without some issues. Firstly, the wireless card isn't detected by OS X. Prior to the OS X install, I bought and fitted the Intel 4965AGN card after reading somewhere that it's compatible with OS X. I chose to install the driver however it is still not detected in the OS. I should note that the blue light on the screen is off under WLAN and WWAN; only Bluetooth is lit up.

Unfortunately I can't get into About This Mac, as the OS hangs, screen goes blue and reloads Finder.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks!

Was this issue ever solved (particularly the "about this mac" issue)? I'm having the same ATM issue with OS X 10.6.3. I transplanted a card from a dead Macbook into my UX280p and it works most of the time. The range isn't as good as it is with Windows XP, though.

ATM, I am running 10.6.8 on my UX.
However, there are lot of issues I need to figure them out.
Here is something that I have done so far:

1. Youtube videos do not play properly. Audio is crappy and no video at all. I guess it's GMA950 driver with QE, CI issues. I have tried many kexts, but it doesn't help. No external display either.

2. Built in Mic issue. It makes noise when you slide the LCD up or down.

3. I was able to install VoodooIntel3945. However, signle is very weak and only WEP is supported.

4. It's frozen on shutdown, but reset (restart) is working fine.

5. LAN is working perfectly. You need to edit kext to make it works.

6. With 10.6.8, estimated battery life shows over 4 hours for fully charged extended battery. However, the real time may be different.

hmm seems like alot of work to go before one can fully use osx 10.6.8 on sonyux. It makes ubuntu look so easy to setup in comparison where video driver works from the start so youtube works, although installing aftermarket intel driver can further improve performance. Built in mic works perfectly, with gain controls if required. Intel 4965 and the original wifi card that comes with the UX works from the start. Shutdown, restart, hibernate and suspend all work out without any extra settings. Lan work too without any setting up. Battery meter works as it should and give very accurate information, including the useful watt meter to see how much watts you are using overall.

This is what I am doing for a customer. After he received the UX (490 with 7700), he told me he is disappointed with the UX since OSX didn't work as he expected.

He blamed me that I didn't carefully setup the UX. He asked me OSX has to be updated to the newest version. However, I am noob on OSX and just relying on what other OSX experts have done.

The UX is dual boot Windows 7 and OSX.

Absolutely NOT since I already know how OSX behaves on UX.
I have warning him before he pay for it.
I only said, if other people can do it, I can do it.
