I wonder what Sony did with all of the production documentation since it is unlikely they would forward it to the new owner of the division. I bet that, at the time, it was a decision based on the cost or availability of the HHD when deciding to enable PATA instead of SATA interface. Poor decision since the device was already high end of the spectrum and costs for populating a connector and designing a ribbon was probably minimal.

Are you going to try hard wire a connector and see if you can get the SATA controller to work?

Also suspect, by enabling the SATA connector on the UX may incur side effects like increased battery consumption. Every bit of juice saved is a few minutes more battery life.
