I am using the core2duo mod on my UX. I have found performance to be substantially better than the stock single core CPU, but as for running games, it really depends on what games you want to play. Anything 2008 ish games should run quite well, but do remember alot of games depend more on graphics card rather than CPU. In the case of the UX, it only has a meager GMA950, which was good for playing 2004 games.

The performance of the core2duo U7700 CPU in the UX was very good when it was first available for the UX, but now, in 2013, the core2duo entire range is really quite average compared to the likes of the latest Core i series CPUs. Even an entry level i3 will greatly out perform the U7700 CPU.

Has anyone talked to Anh? I want my UX upgraded to a core 2 duo. Does anyone know how to get in contact with him?

hmm I tried emailing him, and no response yet, it may be possible he is on holiday? Guess you should have gotten your UX upgraded earlier while it was a popular to do so. I got my UX upgraded in 2011, and already at that time I would imagine the UX mod was getting relatively old.

I have to say though the Sony UX, be it modded or unmodded, has fared well over the times, and in it's own right is more durable than alot of newer laptop computers.

Yeah...I know what you mean. The UX is untouchable. I had a UX 490N a few years ago modded by Anh. I just had to let it go. Funds got tight. I recently ordered a UX1XN from EBay. That's why I wanted to know if Anh still did the upgrade service...cause I think I'mma need that.

tats sad, still no word from Anh, maybe still on holiday or changed jobs. Guess if Anh does not do the upgrades no more, you could either find a BGA chip installer that is willing to remove the old and install the new CPU

here is a link to get the CPU
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Duo-cpu-U7700-for-945-chipset-2M-Cache-1-33GHz-533MHz-SLAUR-/281459376038?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4188493fa6

The other option is to wait for an already upgraded UX to come available off ebay.

still nothing from Anh, suspect either on a long vacation, or he's decided not to do upgrades no more. Seems like u7700 UXes will be rather rare.

Yeah...I think you're right. I think I'm going to use that link you gave me and order the processor myself. Then...I'm going to look around in my town to see which computer shop can install it.
