I'm confused. In that link it says "These do include the digitizer."

gah! Just got this machine from my wife's cousine. Had to go across border to pick it up, then pay tax (on a broken machine????) turned it on and I got the same screen where it's half stripes and half white.

The weird part was, first time when I turned it on, it showed me that for a short while, then it went into windows xp login screen.

I went into settings and changed font to large dpi and restarted it. Then afterwards, stripes and white was all I could see...

Does that mean it's just a resolution issue?

sorry to say wenyen, it seems you too have the dead lcd syndrome. not good man. The random occurring of the striping fault leads me to believe its due to something loose parts inside the lcd and hence faulty. I am starting to think that sony got a batch of not so well built ux lcd panels. The LCD is special in the ux since it has both the digitizer and LCD on the one ribbon cable.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but the problem that wenyen explained reminds me of what happens to a UX180P that long ago I bought on eBay. I knew that would not work because it had the problem of the LCD screen, half white screen and the other half with stripes. The seller was selling it for parts and I bought it for this reason and because the docking station was included (two dead batteries too).

I remember when it arrived it booted correctly the first time, no screen problem. Windows was not working properly and at the first reboot the problem appeared.
I spent some time trying to figure out if it could be the flex cable, opening the Vaio with no success.

The funny thing is that if I leave it off for a while (say a week, a month ...) when turned on again the first time the white / stripes appear a moment but then disappear and the display works properly ... but just until I do a reboot. Then stops working again.

VGA output was working properly, I installed Ubuntu and then Kali Linux.

Could it be temperature related? After you boot it, the device warms up and stops working. Did you try it outdoors in colder temperature and see if it would boot fine?

I don't know but will try what you say, outdoors in colder temperature (we're having cold days) and with a little cooling base for mini laptops I have. In any case if it is related to the temperature it affects only the screen, everything else works ok.
