Games that work on the UX

Postby enterman » Tue Feb 27, 2007 04:18

This post contains games that the community here at MPCT have reported as to how they function on the ux. This list is not definite, these are games that we know work on the UX, not the only games that work on it. Do not assume that games not listed here do not work, only games on the "Not working" list are confirmed as not working.

Perfect
Age of Empires 2 - AOE2 doesn't support 1024x600 but as long as you have your driver set to stretch the game runs fullscreen and the stylus works perfectly. The game will chrash if you are not running the latest patch.

Alien Vs Predator - Supports 1024x600 resolution

Armadillo Run - Supports 1024x600 resolution

Defcon - Runs perfectly and supports 1024x600 nativly so stylus works perfectly

Quake 2 - Runs perfectly. Use this guide for 1024x600 resolution

Rayman 3 - Runs Perfectly though 1024x600 unconfirmed.

Red Alert 2 - Works flawlessly when using the modded for XP version. Supports 1024x600 if you edit an ini file and widescreen looks quite remarkable, nothing is stretched so much that it looks horrible + perfect stylus usage. Get the widescreen fix info at WSGF here.

Superpower 2 - Runs perfect at max settings however, chrashs unless ini file (located at: C:\Program Files\Dreamcatcher\Superpower 2\joshua.cfg) is edited for 1024x600.

Total Annihilation - Runs perfectly, natively supports 1024x600 and stylus works perfectly.

Doesnt natively support 1024x600 but if you make a profile ingame then you can edit a ini file to 1024x600 and have fullscreen+perfect stylus usage ingame. Its located in: "C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Profiles\(your profile name)\Options.ini You must set shader detail to medium or the game will chrash during gameplay.

Flight Sim 2004 - Runs perfectly though hard to play on the keyboard. Unknown if it supports 1024x600 resolution.

Heroes of Might and Magic V - works very well, supports 1024x600, settings at max, I was quite surprised. Works great with touchscreen.

Icewind Dale Series - Runs well but does not supports 1024x600.

If you don't disable this option, the game will quit to windows when it have to show some 3D graphic (show the car before the race).

Silent Hunter 2 - Works very well in 800x600, slow paced WWII you-boat simulator lends itself well to UX play.

Sim City Societies - Works alright but just kinda slow at some times. Of course the graphics are on lower resolution, but over all it seems good enough to be played on the ux for sure.

The Sims 2 - FPS reported as being very playable. Game supports fullscreen 1024x600 resolution.

Sins of a Solar Empire - Runs quite well but does not and probably never will support 1024x600 because of how the developers made the games engine. The only way to make the game run right is to set the UX's display to 1024x768.

Source Engine Games - Reported as not having very good FPS. To get running create a shortcut with these parameters:
C:/Program Files/Steam/Steam.exe -fullscreen -width 1024 -height 600 -dxlevel 70
OR
Right-click on the game in your Steam window, go to properties then click the "set launch options" button. Enter -dxlevel 70 in the little box. Start the game. Close the game and now remove the command from the launch options (or else your video settings will keep defaulting).

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Unplayable

Crazy Taxi 3 - Loads but slows to a crawl once you get past the menu's so its pretty much unplayable

Devil May Cry 3 - Only works with shiftshader which means unplayable FPS

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Crashs unless using the oldblivion mod. Even with all settings on low, still not playable FPS. Supports 1024x600 resolution.

Overlord - was able to get it running using 3d Analyzer but its way to slow to be playable

Quake 4 - works but unplayable on any settings

X²: The Threat - Works but is just too slow to play properly. I even tried 640x140 at 16 bit and its still to slow.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

DOSBox - seems to work well; fired up Wizardry 7, Eye of the Beholder 2, World of Xeen and others.. works very well, though I would like to find out how to go proper fullscreen. (Alt-Enter makes it go fullscreen, but it just centers in the otherwise black display. There must be a scaling option available to fill, or maybe it needs a code change..). To fix this do this "update drivers to Oct 2007 edition, and now have the aspect settings. Looks pretty awesome in fullscreen.Sadly, the touchscreen accuracy is completely shot in fullscreen mode"

Project 64 - Runs great though a few, more CPU intensive games have a few slowdowns. Supports 1024x600. Its even possible to use the Mouse pad as a game controller.

Nice list you've compiled there, if we can continue to add to this thread I'll considering stickying it.

So far my list of games that do not work at all include Day of Defeat: Source, and Counter-Strike: Source. Both go to a black screen after the menu finishes loading.

I hope your UX arrives safe and sound on thursday : D

Guild Wars works fine. Also, WOW basic and Burning Crusade (expansion) both work ok and I didn't change any of the default settings (of course, it may be because I'm in a low population server).
