I think it means could not detect carrier. What carrier are you trying to connect to and what software are you using ?

It often comes from APN. Check it form your carrier.
Also try to send a SMS to be sure you can use your SIM card.

Howdy y'all. I hope this isn't off topic but I have a usb EVDO modem through my wireless carrier. Is there anyway I can use the unlocked sims card or replace that card with another so I do not have to use the USB EVDO gadget? I'd rather have this stuff internal.

Thanks for any help or advise.

The internal modem in the UX series will only connect to GPRS/GSM networks..in continentel US that generally means ATT/Cingular or T-Mobile. There is no way to use your EVDO account internally. The internal modem is much slower than EVDO but useful in certain circumstances.

Hi,
I've bought an ux490 with already unlocked modem, but i don't have a code, so i wonder wether modem will be locked after reinstalling windows or it was unlocked once and forever?

I have the unlock code from Sony but do NOT have a cingular sim card. If I borrow one from a friends phone, will it hurt her connection?

There is really only one reason for not unlocking the SIM on Vista machines. There is no hyper terminal. the unlock process is done through hyper terminal. There is a way to unlock from what we have heard but you have to use third party software downloaded and installed from the web.
