I hear windows 8 will require less resource than Win7, so UX uses may be in for a treat here. I think there is version of Win7 lite which may have similar performance to XP. Linux on the UX is considerably faster than XP hehe.
Lastly if you really need to use XP with an SSD, there are tips and tricks to get XP running optimally on SSD, from setting up offsets that are SSD friendly, disabling features in XP which cause random writes all the time. Also it is essential that the SSD of choice has some sort of "garbage collection" ie cleanup the NAND so when XP needs to write to SSD there is free blocks to write to. failure to have such a feature may result in very poor write performance which is indicative of Windows pausing, and locking up temporarily until the the required write sequence has completed.
If you are scared of shortening the life of SSD, which generally even on using XP on SSD should last about 3 years with average writes. There is a expensive option known as SLC SSD. This SSD not only has alot quicker default NAND write speeds, but also has approx 10x more durability ie. if your SSD would usually last 3 years, then the SLC variant in the same use condition will last nearly 30 years! Plus SLC SSD does not require garbage collection for IDE PATA as it is able to write quicker than the BUS speeds.
